High-Speed Water Course: Go Faster by Braking Smarter

The High-Speed Water Course offers long stretches where the motorcycle can approach maximum pace. The challenge is not reaching that speed; it is carrying useful momentum through ramps, surface changes, and hazards without turning every correction into an emergency.

Speed begins with information

Acceleration is safest when you know what follows. Keep your eyes toward the emerging right side of the track and identify at least the next two features. A clear straight followed by a gentle rise supports a long throttle input. A hidden landing, red obstacle, or narrow platform requires an earlier decision.

Fast riders appear decisive because they gather information sooner. They do not wait for a hazard to fill the screen. They release the throttle or brake while the motorcycle is still stable, preserving control and reducing the amount of speed that must be removed.

Use throttle in long, clean phases

Hold the Right Arrow across open road rather than tapping it rapidly. Continuous input creates predictable acceleration. Before a technical section, release it first and observe how much the bike slows naturally. Use the Left Arrow only when additional reduction is required.

  • Accelerate through visible, low-risk sections.
  • Coast briefly before crests with hidden landings.
  • Brake in a straight line whenever possible.
  • Release the brake before takeoff.
  • Return to throttle after the tyres settle.

Choose reliable braking points

A braking point is a visual feature that tells you when to reduce speed: a color change, platform edge, ramp base, or background object. Using the same marker on every attempt creates consistency. If you stop too early, move the marker slightly forward next time. If you overshoot, move it backward.

Avoid holding the brake all the way into a jump. The motorcycle needs forward momentum to clear gaps, and late braking can disturb its angle. Reduce the unwanted speed early, then roll smoothly into the takeoff.

Keep high-speed jumps low

At racing speed, forward momentum already provides long distance. Extra lift from Space may create more airtime than needed. Use a manual jump for hazards or broken surfaces, not automatically at every ramp. A lower arc returns the tyres to the road sooner and lets acceleration resume.

Because the bike travels farther during each second of airtime, rotation inputs must be measured against the rapidly approaching landing. Make the primary correction early, finish it near the apex, and keep the final descent calm.

Stabilize fast landings

  1. Read the slope before beginning the descent.
  2. Stop large rotation while there is still visible space.
  3. Align both wheels with the road.
  4. Allow the suspension to absorb impact.
  5. Apply throttle progressively as grip returns.

A hard landing does not always end the run, but it may create a bounce. If the bike rebounds, avoid full acceleration until it settles. A short neutral input can save more time than a crash and restart.

Protect the racing line

The course is side-scrolling, so the “line” is mainly a sequence of angles and speed choices. Enter each ramp close to its surface angle and leave each landing ready for the next feature. Unnecessary wheelies, jumps, or flips make the line less predictable.

Common high-speed failures

Tunnel vision is the biggest risk. Watching the speed or the motorcycle prevents early obstacle detection. Another failure is braking too hard because the previous section felt fast. Progressive braking keeps the chassis more stable. Finally, some riders accelerate immediately after one wheel touches down, producing a wheelie or another jump before the bike is ready.

Improve your time systematically

Complete one safe reference run. Then choose a single straight and hold acceleration slightly longer. If the following landing remains clean, keep the change. Move to the next section only after the improvement is reliable. This builds speed without losing the route knowledge that made the reference run successful.

Compare consistency, not only the best result. Three clean runs within a similar time show genuine control. One unusually fast finish surrounded by crashes usually depends on luck and is difficult to repeat.

Fast can still feel smooth

The High-Speed Water Course becomes manageable when acceleration and braking are planned rather than reactive. Look ahead, use long throttle phases, brake at stable markers, keep jumps efficient, and respect the landing. The result is a run that feels calmer while the motorcycle travels faster.

When should I use full throttle?

Use it when the road ahead is visible and offers enough distance to react. If the landing beyond a crest is hidden, coast until the route becomes clear.

Why does braking make my jump unstable?

You may be braking too late or continuing onto the ramp. Choose an earlier marker, reduce speed while straight, and release before takeoff so the suspension can settle.

How can I compare improvements?

Create one safe reference run and change a single acceleration zone. If the next landing stays controlled and the time improves, keep the adjustment. Avoid changing every sector together.

Average speed matters more than the highest number reached. Smooth landings, useful jumps, and fewer emergency corrections preserve momentum and make a fast run repeatable.
